YOUR VISIT AT A GLANCE

A clear starting point

Think of microneedling as a process, with a treatment decision, healing period, and follow-up—not simply an appointment for a quick glow.

The goal

Improve the appearance of texture and selected scars through a controlled skin-remodeling response. Your exact concern determines the plan.

The appointment

Needling commonly takes about 30–45 minutes, depending on the area. Allow additional time for assessment, preparation, numbing, and aftercare.

The recovery

Expect visible skin changes and sensitivity for several days. Treatment intensity and your response affect when skin feels ready for normal routines.

The results

Changes develop gradually. Texture and scar goals often require a series and reassessment over months; a specific improvement cannot be promised.

HOW IT WORKS

What is professional microneedling?

Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled punctures in the skin. The resulting healing response supports collagen remodeling, which can make some scars and lines less noticeable and skin texture appear more even. You may also hear it called collagen induction therapy.

The treatment has to match the tissue

Depth, treatment area, skin condition, and recovery needs all matter. A setting appropriate for one concern is not automatically appropriate for another. More aggressive treatment is not automatically a better treatment.

The plan has to match the person

We consider what bothers you in everyday lighting, what you have already tried, your skin’s tendency to react, and the time you can allow for healing. Those details help turn a procedure into a practical plan.

Professional treatment also differs from an at-home roller. Home needling can cause injury or infection and does not replace a clinical assessment. Read the American Academy of Dermatology’s microneedling overview.

WHAT WE MAY TREAT

Which skin concerns can microneedling address?

The strongest consultation starts with a specific concern. “Better skin” can mean a change in texture, color, scarring, or volume—and each may call for a different approach.

Uneven texture

If your skin looks irregular in side lighting or makeup emphasizes surface unevenness, microneedling may be considered for a more even-looking texture. Dryness and a disrupted barrier should be addressed in the plan too.

Selected acne scars

Some depressed scars may respond to a course of treatment. Scar shape and depth matter; a scar assessment is more useful than choosing a package based only on a treatment name.

Fine lines and skin quality

Microneedling may help soften the appearance of fine lines. Deep expression lines, significant loose skin, and lost facial volume need their own assessment and may call for other treatments.

Visible pores

A smoother-looking surface can make pores less noticeable. Pores are normal skin structures; the goal is refinement, with realistic expectations rather than a promise to eliminate them.

Color concerns deserve a separate conversation. Red or brown marks, melasma, and redness may need a different first step. Tell us whether your main priority is color, texture, or both. Explore Bella Derma’s treatment options.

ACNE SCARS VS. ACNE MARKS

The right scar plan starts with the right diagnosis

A flat red or brown spot left after a breakout is different from a depression that casts a shadow. A person can have both. Understanding the difference helps avoid treating a color problem as though it were a texture problem.

Flat marks: color first

Post-acne marks may be red, pink, or brown without an indentation. A plan for residual color can differ from a plan for depressed scars. Microneedling should not be the automatic answer to every leftover acne mark.

Rolling and shallow boxcar scars

These broader depressions and defined indentations may benefit from microneedling. We evaluate depth and tethering before deciding whether needling alone is a reasonable starting point.

Deep or tethered scars

Deep boxcar scars, narrow ice-pick scars, and depressions anchored beneath the skin may need a targeted procedure or combination plan. A dermatologist’s scar assessment or referral can be appropriate.

Active acne: control it first

Scar treatment usually follows control of ongoing breakouts. Treating inflamed skin while new scars continue to form can work against your goals. We can discuss acne care before moving into scar remodeling.

What meaningful improvement looks like: a change in how scars catch light, how makeup sits, or how noticeable texture is in comparable photographs. Improvement is the goal; complete scar removal is not a promise.

AN OPTION WITHIN YOUR PLAN

Where VAMP Advanced microneedling fits

Bella Derma offers VAMP Advanced as a topical option within a professional microneedling plan. VAMP Advanced contains PDRN, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. The manufacturer positions the formulation for hydration, radiance, and skin quality.

Professional microneedling

The foundation is still the procedure: an appropriate treatment area, technique, recovery plan, and series when indicated. A topical formulation does not replace those decisions.

VAMP Advanced topical care

VAMP Advanced is applied topically at Bella Derma and is not injected. We discuss the formulation, its role, product sensitivities, and what it adds to your proposed plan before you choose an option.

A useful question: “What would VAMP add for my particular concern, and how does that change the plan or cost?” An upgraded product does not guarantee a better result for every patient.

The FDA has not approved microneedling devices for delivering cosmetics, vitamin solutions, medications, or blood products into the skin. A product description should not be mistaken for FDA clearance of a combined treatment.

CHOOSE BY CONCERN

Microneedling, PRX, peels, or Aerolase?

Different procedures serve different purposes. Your consultation should explain why one fits your goal—and why another may be more useful first.

Microneedling

Considered when collagen remodeling and selected texture or depressed-scar concerns are central. You need to account for healing and the possibility of a series.

PRX Derm Perfexion

A topical treatment option focused on skin quality and radiance. It offers a different experience from needling. Whether it fits your priority depends on the skin assessment and proposed protocol.

Chemical peels

Peels may be considered for selected surface, tone, and texture concerns. The formulation and strength change both the goal and recovery. A peel and microneedling are not interchangeable appointments.

Aerolase laser treatments

If active acne, redness, or pigment is the primary concern, we may discuss an Aerolase plan. Microneedling can be considered later for residual texture when appropriate.

Compare PRX, chemical peels, and microneedling or Aerolase and microneedling. Our treatment sequencing guide explains how to plan appointments and recovery together.

How is RF microneedling different?

Conventional microneedling uses needles; RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency energy that heats tissue. Bella Derma’s microneedling approach centers on professional needling and VAMP Advanced. We do not present RF as the automatic next level.

In October 2025, the FDA issued a safety communication about reported serious complications with certain RF microneedling uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, and nerve damage. Device selection, experience, and individual risk deserve a specific discussion. Read our microneedling versus RF guide.

CANDIDACY

Is microneedling right for your skin?

A good candidate has a concern the procedure can reasonably address, skin ready for treatment, and expectations that fit a gradual process. Your medical and skin history matter as much as the concern you see in the mirror.

Bring these details to your consultation

  • Your main priority: scars, lines, texture, color, or a combination.
  • Current skincare, prescriptions, supplements, and past acne treatment.
  • Previous laser, peel, needling, or injectable treatments and how you healed.
  • A history of dark marks after irritation, cold sores, allergies, or unusual scars.
  • Your event dates, outdoor plans, and available recovery time.

When we may delay or change the plan

Active breakouts or infection, sunburn, an irritated barrier, or poor healing can change candidacy. We also review keloid history, bleeding risk, immune suppression, recent isotretinoin use, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and numbing-product allergies.

Share medications with us; do not stop a prescribed treatment on your own to prepare for a cosmetic procedure.

What about darker skin tones?

Microneedling may be considered across skin tones, but that does not mean every patient has the same risk. Your history of pigmentation after inflammation, recent sun exposure, skin condition, and proposed treatment intensity deserve attention. The aim is a plan that respects your skin’s response.

A changing mole, unexplained rash, or suspicious spot should receive an appropriate medical evaluation before cosmetic treatment.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

What happens during a microneedling visit?

You should understand what we are treating, what the experience may feel like, and what you will need to do afterward before treatment begins.

01 · Assess and agree on the goal

We review your concern, skin history, and recent treatments. Ask which areas will be treated, what changes are realistic, and whether a series or another first step makes more sense.

02 · Prepare and discuss comfort

The skin is prepared and topical numbing is used when appropriate. Tell us about prior reactions to anesthetics. Most patients describe pressure, vibration, scratching, or brief sensitivity rather than an entirely sensation-free visit.

03 · Perform the treatment

Treatment is adapted to the area and clinical assessment. Sensitivity can vary across the face, especially near bony areas. Tell your provider how you feel; tolerating more discomfort is not the goal.

04 · Leave with a recovery plan

We review what to use, what to pause, when to restart your routine, and how to contact us. Follow-up decisions should consider how you heal as well as the changes you hope to see.

Appointment timing: the needling portion commonly takes around 30–45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. Preparation and numbing add time. Confirm the full visit length when scheduling, especially if you are returning to work afterward.

SERIES & EXPECTATIONS

When will you see results—and how many sessions will you need?

Skin healing and visible remodeling happen on different timelines. An early refreshed appearance is not the same as a finished scar-remodeling result. Changes may begin within weeks and continue developing over several months.

A starting plan, then reassessment

Some patients seek a single treatment for a limited goal. Persistent texture or scars more often call for a series. We discuss a starting recommendation and reassess rather than promise the same number of sessions for every face.

Recovery between sessions matters

Sessions are spaced to allow healing and evaluate your response. Intervals vary with the concern, intensity, device guidance, and other treatments. Your next appointment should fit your skin’s readiness.

Measure progress fairly. Compare photographs taken in similar lighting, angles, and skin conditions. Immediate swelling, different makeup, or a flattering light source can make a result look more dramatic than it is.

Think long term. Aging and new skin concerns continue. A maintenance decision should follow your results, ongoing skincare, sun habits, and budget—not a fixed promise that every result lasts a particular number of months.

RECOVERY PLANNING

Microneedling downtime: what to expect

Allow several days for visible recovery rather than assuming you will be camera-ready the next morning. Redness or a darker appearance, warmth, tightness, mild swelling, and sensitivity can occur. Some people also notice dryness or flaking.

Treatment day

Your skin may feel warm or sunburned and look visibly treated. Keep the remainder of the day simple, follow the product instructions you are given, and avoid rubbing or picking.

The first few days

Visible redness and sensitivity often ease gradually. Light flaking or dryness may appear. Recovery can take longer with a more intensive treatment or reactive skin.

As your skin settles

Resume makeup, exercise, active skincare, and other treatments only according to your individualized instructions. “I feel fine” does not automatically mean the skin is ready for every product.

Weeks to months

Assess texture changes after the immediate treatment reaction resolves. A scar plan requires patience and follow-up; the result develops beyond the visible downtime.

Planning around Reno and Tahoe: build recovery around hikes, skiing, lake days, travel, and other outdoor plans. Strong sun exposure, wind, and dry conditions can complicate a comfortable recovery. Discuss protective clothing, shade, and the appropriate timing for sunscreen with your provider.

Have a wedding, photoshoot, or major event? Start the conversation well ahead of the date. A first treatment immediately before an important event leaves little room to learn how your own skin responds.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

How to prepare for microneedling

Good preparation is specific to your skin and the proposed protocol. Bring your routine and treatment history so we can give instructions that fit what you actually use.

Coordinate your skincare

Ask when to pause retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, or products that irritate your skin. Tell us about prescription acne treatments and recent procedures. Follow the timing provided for your plan.

Keep your skin ready

Tell us about a new breakout, rash, cold sore, sunburn, or unusual sensitivity before your appointment. Discuss recent tanning and outdoor plans. It is better to adjust the date than proceed on compromised skin.

Tell us about blood-thinning medicines, healing conditions, and allergies. If you have a cold-sore history, ask whether a preventive prescription is appropriate. Do not change prescribed medication without guidance from the clinician who manages it.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

Protect the healing process

Use the written aftercare plan for your treatment. The simplest routine you are instructed to follow is usually more helpful than introducing several new products because your skin feels dry.

Use only the recommended routine

Follow instructions for gentle cleansing, moisturizer, and sun protection. Ask about the timing for makeup and sunscreen rather than guessing from a generic online schedule.

Give irritation a rest

Pause exfoliation, retinoids, scrubs, and other irritating products for the period you are advised. Avoid picking flakes. Ask when to resume workouts, sauna, hot yoga, swimming, and other heat or sweat exposure.

Schedule the next treatment thoughtfully. Tell us about booked peels, lasers, facials, injectables, or waxing so the recovery windows can be coordinated. Bring questions to us if instructions from different providers conflict.

INFORMED CARE

Side effects, risks, and when to call

Temporary redness, dryness, tightness, discomfort, bruising, or pinpoint bleeding may occur. Less common complications include infection, pigment changes, cold-sore reactivation, and scarring. Treatment can also fall short of the improvement you expected.

Contact Bella Derma promptly for worsening pain or redness, pus, fever, blistering, persistent bleeding, or a reaction that concerns you. Do not wait for your next scheduled visit to discuss a possible complication. Call 775-300-9862; severe or rapidly worsening symptoms require urgent medical care.

Ask which device will be used, what indications and areas its labeling covers, how sterile single-use needle components are handled, and who to contact after treatment. Our medical spa safety checklist helps you prepare informed questions.

THE BELLA DERMA APPROACH

A plan you can understand and evaluate

You should leave a consultation knowing what the proposed treatment is meant to accomplish, why it fits your skin, and what the commitment involves.

Concern before procedure

We distinguish acne activity, color changes, depressed scars, texture, and volume concerns before recommending a direction. A popular treatment is useful only when it fits the problem.

Clarity before commitment

Discuss expected recovery, realistic limits, your treatment options, and the cost of the proposed plan. You should understand the reason for a series or an added topical option.

Sequence before stacking

More treatments in the same visit are not automatically better. We consider recovery and timing when planning microneedling alongside other procedures.

Reassessment before escalation

Your response should guide the next step. If your concern needs a different modality or specialist care, changing direction can be more useful than repeating the same procedure.

COST & VALUE

How much does microneedling cost in Reno?

Pricing depends on the treatment area, chosen protocol, whether VAMP Advanced is included, and the number of sessions recommended. A single-session price does not tell you the cost of a complete texture or scar plan.

Ask for the whole plan

At your consultation, ask what each appointment includes, the recommended starting series, aftercare needs, and the total projected cost. Clarify how reassessment could change that recommendation.

Choose value you can explain

Compare assessment, provider experience, the proposed procedure, follow-up, and recovery guidance along with price. A low-cost appointment that does not address your actual concern may be poor value.

Bella Derma offers free consultations so you can discuss candidacy and receive current pricing for your proposed plan. Payment options are explained on our Cherry and PatientFi pages; eligibility and terms are determined by the financing provider.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Microneedling FAQs

Topical numbing is commonly used when appropriate, but you may still feel pressure, scratching, vibration, or sensitivity. The experience varies by area and treatment intensity. Tell us about anesthetic allergies and speak up about discomfort during treatment.

Some people notice a change after one treatment, but the size and timing of that change vary. Persistent texture and scar concerns often need a series. A consultation can help separate a limited skin-quality goal from a longer remodeling plan.

Complete removal is not a realistic promise. The aim is less noticeable scarring and more even-looking texture. Deep, narrow, tethered, or mixed scars may need a different or combined approach. Scar classification helps guide that decision.

Usually, the first priority is controlling ongoing breakouts and inflammation. New acne can create new scars. We discuss acne care and skin readiness before proceeding with needling over a scar concern.

Color concerns need their own assessment. A brown mark is not the same as a depressed scar, and melasma can have several triggers. We do not automatically recommend microneedling when pigment is the main problem; another approach may be more appropriate first.

No. VAMP Advanced is a topical formulation containing PDRN, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. It is not your own platelet-rich plasma and is not a dermal filler. Bella Derma applies it topically rather than injecting it.

No. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy and tissue heating to needling. Its device choices and risks require a separate discussion. Bella Derma’s microneedling offering centers on professional needling and VAMP Advanced.

Follow the timing provided for your specific treatment. Recovery intensity and skin condition affect that advice. Plan your appointment so you do not have to conceal freshly treated skin for an event immediately afterward.

Ask for instructions that cover your usual activities. Heat, sweating, friction, and pool exposure may need to be paused during early recovery. Your plan should specify when each activity can resume.

Restart them according to your aftercare instructions and skin recovery. Do not use stinging or exfoliating products simply because the first redness has faded. If you use a prescription retinoid, coordinate the plan with your clinician.

These treatments may appear in a broader plan, but sequencing matters. Discuss all scheduled procedures and allow recovery time as advised. Having treatments on the same day is a protocol decision, not a shortcut to better results.

Book the consultation early enough to allow assessment, a possible series, reassessment, and recovery. Your first treatment should not be a last-minute experiment before an important date. Bring the event date so the plan can be built backward from it.

There is no single duration for everyone. The concern treated, response, ongoing aging, acne activity, and sun habits all matter. Discuss maintenance after you evaluate the initial result rather than assuming every patient needs the same schedule.

Yes. Bella Derma offers free consultations. Bring your main concern, skincare list, treatment history, and timing or budget questions. We can discuss whether professional microneedling, VAMP Advanced, or another option fits.
