A CLEAR STARTING POINT

What your hair reduction plan should cover

The goal is a meaningful reduction in unwanted hair and a simpler grooming routine. Your consultation should make the treatment commitment easy to understand.

The technology

Bella Derma uses Aerolase Neo Elite: a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with 650-microsecond pulse technology.

The treatment areas

Small areas, larger regions, bikini and Brazilian treatments, and coordinated full-body plans are available when appropriate.

The series

Multiple appointments are usually needed. Hair color, density, growth cycles, body area, and your response influence the plan.

The expectations

Think long-term reduction. Maintenance may be useful, particularly for hormone-sensitive growth; complete removal of every hair is not promised.

THE AEROLASE ADVANTAGE

Why Bella Derma uses Aerolase Neo Elite

The device behind the treatment matters. Aerolase combines a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength with unusually short, 650-microsecond pulses. For you, the useful conversation is what those features mean for skin-tone suitability, comfort, and the way your treatment is delivered.

A wavelength suited to diverse skin tones

Aerolase positions Neo Elite for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI. This gives us an option for patients with a broad range of complexions, including darker skin. Your current skin condition and pigment history still guide treatment.

Short pulses designed around comfort

The manufacturer designs its brief energy delivery to limit heat diffusion into surrounding skin. That is central to Aerolase’s comfort approach. Your sensation still varies with the area, hair density, and settings.

A non-contact treatment approach

The Aerolase handpiece treats without pressing against the skin. Manufacturer guidance describes treatment without cooling gel or routine topical anesthesia, supporting a straightforward appointment experience.

A role in razor-bump care

Aerolase’s hair-removal platform also addresses pseudofolliculitis barbae, a form of recurrent razor bumps. Reducing the hair that drives the problem may be useful alongside an appropriate skin-care plan.

What this means in practice: an advanced device gives us useful options; a thoughtful assessment determines how to use them for you. We explain the reason for the proposed settings, areas, and schedule rather than relying on a brand name alone.

CANDIDACY

Is laser hair removal a good fit for you?

Start with the hair you want to reduce, the skin beneath it, and what a successful result would look like in your daily life.

Hair color and thickness matter

Darker, coarser hairs generally provide a better target than very fine or lightly pigmented hairs. White, gray, very light blond, and many red hairs are poor laser targets. A broad skin-tone range does not mean every hair color responds.

Your history matters too

Tell us about prior laser treatments, pigment changes, unusual scarring, cold sores, medications, recent isotretinoin use, and pregnancy. Skin irritation, infection, tanning, or sunburn may change the plan or appointment date.

Bring a clear goal: less daily shaving, fewer ingrown hairs, reduced density, or a particular grooming shape. You do not have to want every hair removed to benefit from a well-defined plan.

A sudden change in hair growth deserves attention. New or rapidly increasing facial or body hair may warrant a medical evaluation, particularly when accompanied by other changes. Hair reduction does not diagnose or treat the hormonal cause.

SKIN TONE & PIGMENT HISTORY

Laser hair removal for darker skin in Reno

Skin of color deserves a specific treatment discussion. A useful consultation considers your actual complexion, tanning, prior reactions, and hair characteristics instead of treating every darker skin tone as one category.

Match the technology and the plan

Neo Elite’s 1064 nm Nd:YAG platform is designed for use across skin types. We consider your pigment history and treatment area when discussing an appropriate approach and expected response.

Respect the skin’s current condition

A history of dark marks after irritation, recent tanning, or active inflammation can influence preparation and aftercare. Device versatility does not make sunburned or irritated skin ready for treatment.

Questions worth asking: How do you account for my skin tone and history of pigmentation? What response should I expect? What would make you postpone a session? How do I reach you if the skin reacts?

Read our laser hair removal guide for darker skin and our broader laser guide for skin of color.

SMALL AREAS TO FULL BODY

Which areas can Bella Derma treat?

We can start with a single priority or coordinate several areas. Treatment boundaries, hair suitability, appointment length, and pricing should be clear before you begin.

Face and neck

Upper lip, chin, sideburns, cheeks, jawline, selected beard-line shaping, and neck. Fine facial hair and hormone-sensitive growth need particular care in setting expectations.

Underarms

A common starting area for patients seeking less frequent shaving and fewer grooming-related problems. Tell us about irritation, dark marks, or reactions to deodorant.

Bikini and Brazilian

Plans can focus on the bikini line or a broader Brazilian area, with the exact boundaries agreed upon. Your preferences, privacy, and comfort are part of the discussion.

Arms and legs

Half- or full-arm and leg treatments can simplify grooming across larger areas. We discuss which regions are included and how the appointments fit your schedule.

Back, shoulders, chest, and abdomen

These areas can be considered for density reduction or more extensive hair reduction. Large-area planning includes treatment time, hair distribution, and follow-up expectations.

Full-body and selected intimate areas

Coordinated plans can include several regions when appropriate. “Full body” should come with a specific list of areas; sensitive areas need clear consent and treatment boundaries.

PRIVACY & COMFORT

Brazilian laser hair removal, with clear boundaries

An intimate-area appointment should feel professional and predictable. You should understand what will be treated and have room to ask questions before positioning or treatment begins.

Choose the result you want

Discuss bikini-line reduction, a broader Brazilian treatment, or a customized shape. Confirm exactly what is included rather than assuming every clinic uses the same definition.

Keep communication open

Discuss draping, positioning, comfort, and any skin concerns. Tell us about sensitivity, ingrown hairs, recent shaving irritation, or infection. You can ask to pause treatment at any point.

Our Brazilian laser hair removal guide explains preparation, privacy, consent, and the questions to bring to your consultation.

A PRACTICAL LARGE-AREA PLAN

Full-body laser hair removal in Reno

If repeated shaving across several areas takes time or causes irritation, a coordinated plan may be more practical than approaching each region separately.

Define the package clearly

Ask which areas are included, whether face or Brazilian treatment is part of the quote, how many sessions are included, and how future maintenance is priced. A package name alone is not a complete treatment plan.

Coordinate time and timing

Discuss total appointment length, whether areas will be treated together or staged, and how follow-up will work. Your schedule, skin readiness, and the growth patterns of different regions all matter.

You can prioritize the areas that bother you most and expand later if that suits your goals and budget. Read our full-body laser hair removal pricing guide for planning questions.

HOW A SERIES WORKS

Why one appointment cannot reach every hair

Laser energy is absorbed by pigment in the hair and converted to heat. That heat affects the follicle’s ability to grow hair. Treatment works best on appropriately pigmented hairs in the active growth phase, while follicles cycle at different times.

Different hairs become available over time

Not every follicle is in the same phase during your appointment. A series allows repeated treatment as additional hairs become suitable targets.

Spacing is part of the plan

Sessions are usually several weeks apart. An interval in the range of four to eight weeks is common, but the treatment area, growth, and clinical assessment determine your recommendation.

How many sessions? Many plans involve roughly six to eight treatments as a starting framework. Some patients need more, and no package count guarantees a particular result. Ask how we will assess progress and decide whether further treatment is useful.

Read how Aerolase hair reduction works for a deeper look at hair cycles and treatment planning.

RESULTS & MAINTENANCE

What long-term hair reduction can look like

A useful result is less unwanted hair to manage: slower return, fewer hairs, reduced density, or finer remaining growth. The amount and timing of improvement vary.

During the series

Look for a trend over appointments rather than judge the whole plan after one session. Record how often you shave and which areas still bother you; that helps make follow-up more specific.

After the starting series

Review the reduction you achieved, remaining hairs, and whether additional treatment is worthwhile. Compare your result with your original goal—not someone else’s photographs.

Facial and hormonal growth

Chin, jawline, and other hormone-sensitive areas may need ongoing attention. Laser reduces suitable existing hair; it cannot prevent every future hormonally influenced hair from developing.

Maintenance when it adds value

Some patients benefit from occasional touch-ups. Your remaining growth and goals should guide that decision rather than an automatic promise of a fixed lifetime schedule.

“Permanent reduction” has a specific meaning. It describes a stable, long-term reduction in regrowing hair. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every treated area will stay completely hair-free forever.

INGROWN HAIRS & RAZOR BUMPS

Address the hair that keeps triggering irritation

For some patients, the main frustration is a cycle of close shaving, returning hair, tenderness, and bumps. Laser hair reduction may help when regrowing hairs are driving the problem.

Ingrown hairs and razor bumps: simplified skin cross-sections showing a hair growing outward and a curved hair re-entering nearby skin with local irritation.
Simplified illustration of one way ingrown hairs can develop.

A hair-focused approach

Reducing suitable hair can reduce a contributor to recurrent pseudofolliculitis and ingrown hairs. Beard and neck areas, bikini regions, and underarms are common topics in this conversation.

A skin-focused assessment

Every bump is not an ingrown hair, and old dark marks may need a separate plan. Persistent, painful, draining, or unexplained lesions should be assessed before booking a cosmetic treatment.

Bring both priorities to your consultation: the hair you want reduced and the irritation or marks you want evaluated. Our ingrown hairs and razor bumps guide helps explain the distinction.

PREPARATION

What to do before laser hair removal

Preparation helps protect your skin and leaves a useful target for the laser. Follow the instructions for your own treatment area and tell us if your skin changes before the appointment.

Shave according to your instructions

Shaving removes hair above the surface while leaving the target below. Ask when to shave and how close to trim. Tell us about razor irritation or cuts so timing can be adjusted.

Pause methods that pull out hair

Waxing, tweezing, threading, and epilating remove the hair the laser needs to target. These methods generally need to be stopped before and during a treatment series.

Discuss sun exposure and tanning

Avoid intentional tanning and tell us about recent outdoor exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner. A tan or sunburn can change treatment readiness, even when the device can treat diverse complexions.

Share products and medications

Bring your medication and skincare list, including retinoids and acne treatments. Ask what to pause for the area being treated. Do not stop prescribed medication without guidance from the clinician managing it.

Follow instructions for arriving with clean skin and for removing products from the treatment area. Contact us before the visit about a new rash, cold sore, open cut, infection, or unusual irritation.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

What happens during an Aerolase hair removal visit?

You should know which areas we will treat, what sensation to expect, and how to care for your skin before the first pulse.

01 · Review the plan

We confirm the treatment area, hair goal, current skin condition, and any new medications or sun exposure. Intimate-area boundaries are discussed clearly.

02 · Prepare and protect

The area is prepared and appropriate protective eyewear is used. Eye protection is an essential part of laser treatment.

03 · Treat and communicate

The non-contact Aerolase handpiece delivers the treatment. You may feel warmth or brief pulses of sensitivity. Tell your provider if an area feels unexpectedly uncomfortable.

04 · Review the next steps

We explain aftercare, what response to watch for, and the next appointment recommendation. Confirm how to reach us with questions after your visit.

Appointment length depends on the area. A small facial area may take minutes; back, legs, or several regions need more time. Ask for the full visit length when scheduling a large-area or full-body plan.

Comfort is individual. Aerolase is designed around a well-tolerated treatment experience. We can discuss that advantage without promising that every patient will feel nothing.

AFTERCARE & DOWNTIME

Return to your routine with a clear care plan

Laser hair removal usually involves little interruption to ordinary activities. Temporary redness, warmth, or mild swelling can occur. A normal workday may be possible, while specific activities and products still need to follow your aftercare instructions.

Keep the skin comfortable

Follow advice for gentle cleansing, moisturizer, and cooling if needed. Ask when to resume shaving, deodorant, active skincare, or exfoliation. Do not pick irritated areas.

Plan sun, heat, and friction

Protect treated skin from sun exposure. Ask when to resume workouts, hot yoga, sauna, swimming, and tight clothing over sensitive areas rather than assuming all activities are immediately appropriate.

Reno and Tahoe planning: consider upcoming hikes, lake days, ski trips, and travel when choosing appointment dates. Protective clothing, shade, and sunscreen used as advised are part of a practical plan.

Tell us about other laser appointments, peels, waxing, or treatments scheduled for the same area so timing can be coordinated.

INFORMED CARE

Risks and skin changes to discuss promptly

Temporary redness, swelling, or discomfort can occur. Possible complications include burns, blisters, pigment changes, infection, scarring, and cold-sore reactivation. Rarely, increased hair growth can occur. The proposed plan should account for your history and treatment area.

Contact Bella Derma promptly for blistering, increasing pain, worsening redness, drainage, or unexpected color changes. Do not treat a concerning reaction as something to hide until the next appointment. Call 775-300-9862; severe or rapidly worsening symptoms require urgent medical care.

If fine facial hair is your main concern, ask whether it is a useful laser target before committing to a series. A suitable device does not eliminate the need to choose suitable hairs and areas.

Use our medical spa safety checklist to prepare questions about training, devices, assessment, and follow-up.

COMPARE YOUR OPTIONS

Laser, IPL, shaving, waxing, or electrolysis?

The right option depends on your hair, skin, treatment area, and priorities. Long-term reduction, occasional grooming, and targeting a few light hairs are different goals.

Aerolase laser hair reduction

A professional 1064 nm Nd:YAG treatment for suitable pigmented hairs. A series, preparation, and follow-up are part of the decision.

Other lasers and IPL

Hair-reduction devices vary. IPL is a different light-based technology; other lasers use different wavelengths and treatment features. Ask which device will be used and why it suits your complexion and hair.

Shaving and waxing

These provide temporary grooming results. Shaving can be coordinated with a laser series; waxing removes the target hair and generally conflicts with treatment preparation.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis can treat individual hairs, including light hairs that laser cannot effectively target. It may be worth discussing when hair color makes a laser series a poor fit.

Home devices also have their own limitations and instructions. Their results and suitability should not be assumed equivalent to a professionally planned treatment. Read our explanation of Aerolase and IPL technology.

COST & VALUE

How much does laser hair removal cost in Reno?

Pricing depends on the treatment area, number of regions, proposed series, and package structure. Compare the complete plan, including what is included and how remaining growth will be reassessed.

For a single area

Ask for the session price, the recommended starting series, any package option, and how touch-ups are priced. Confirm whether the quote covers exactly the area you want.

For Brazilian or full-body treatment

Ask for an itemized list of areas, appointment length, included sessions, and terms of the package. Clear boundaries and inclusions make price comparisons more useful.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Aerolase’s short-pulse technology is designed around comfort, and many patients tolerate it well. Sensation varies with hair density, area, settings, and the individual. A patient’s painless experience is useful feedback, but it is not a guarantee that every person will feel nothing.

Many treatment plans use a starting series of roughly six to eight sessions, with reassessment. Some patients need more. Hair characteristics, body area, growth, and response matter; the right count cannot be determined from a package name alone.

Several weeks between sessions is common, often within a four-to-eight-week range. Your specific recommendation depends on the area and clinical assessment. Ask how the interval will be adjusted as growth changes.

Neo Elite is designed for treatment across Fitzpatrick I–VI. We still assess your complexion, tanning, pigment history, skin condition, and hair before planning treatment. A broad skin-tone range does not make every appointment or setting appropriate.

Hair needs enough suitable pigment to absorb the laser energy. White, gray, very light blond, and many red hairs are poor targets. Electrolysis may be worth discussing for light hairs; do not buy a laser series without assessing the actual hair.

Yes, reduction and grooming preferences can be discussed. Explain the density or shape you want and confirm treatment boundaries, particularly for beard shaping and intimate areas. Individual results vary, so exact density cannot be guaranteed.

Yes. Bella Derma offers bikini and Brazilian treatment, larger areas, and coordinated full-body plans when appropriate. Confirm the exact regions included, visit length, and package terms before booking.

It may help when recurring bumps are driven by suitable regrowing hair. The skin still needs assessment because infection, other skin conditions, and residual dark marks may require a different or additional approach.

Follow your instructions for shaving or trimming. Avoid methods that pull out hair, such as waxing, tweezing, threading, or epilating, for the period you are advised. The laser needs the target hair available below the surface.

Tell us before the appointment. Recent tanning, self-tanner, and sunburn can change treatment readiness and may require a delay. Natural complexion and a recent tan are different factors in planning.

Most patients can resume ordinary activities with little interruption, but redness or sensitivity may occur. Follow individualized guidance for workouts, heat, swimming, friction, and products used on the treated area.

Show your provider tattoos, unusual spots, and any lesion that is changing before treatment. Hair-removal laser should not be directed over a tattoo. A changing or suspicious lesion should receive appropriate medical evaluation first.

Hormone-sensitive facial growth may need ongoing attention. Hair reduction does not prevent every new hair from developing and does not treat the underlying hormonal driver. Discuss new or rapidly changing growth with a clinician.

The appropriate goal is stable, long-term hair reduction. Some hair may remain or return, and maintenance can be useful. We do not promise complete, lifelong removal of every hair.

Compare the same areas and session count, then ask about device, assessment, included visits, follow-up, and maintenance pricing. For a full-body package, get a specific list of regions so the comparison is meaningful.

Yes. Bella Derma offers free consultations. Bring your priorities, hair-removal history, medications, skin concerns, and budget or timing questions. The first decision is whether the proposed treatment fits your skin and hair.
